Job Summary: The Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) Crisis Peer Support Specialist will assist in restoring and sustaining referral pathways and will provide collaborative care; provide transportation, adhere to SAMHSA peer support core competencies, assist with recovery housing and assist GPRA/NOMS follow-up interviews. The CMHC Crisis Peer Support Specialist will provide optimal care through facilitation of access to care, trauma- informed patient-centered family centeredness, cultural competency, and qualified providers. The CMHC Peer Support Specialist works in collaboration with a physician, Crisis Community Support Specialist and Crisis Therapist to assess the needs of the individual in crisis and to implement a plan of care. The CMHC Peer Support Specialist will perform a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages with responsibilities including, but are not limited to, serving as role models to peers, helping other consumers with skill building, goal setting, problem-solving and finding resources.  Reports to the CMHC Program Coordinator.  This is a grant funded position.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED equivalent required.  Must be a current or former consumer; or first degree family member of an individual who has received treatment for and self-identifies as a consumer or former mental health consumer.  Must have demonstrated a minimum of six (6) months, preferably twelve (12) months, in self-directed recovery.  Must successfully pass the Certified Peer Support Specialist after completion of DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist training. Good communication skills are necessary.  Must have valid driver’s license in Mississippi and proof of auto insurance.  This position has been determined to have an occasional or very low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
