Job Summary: The Peer Bridger will perform a wide range of peer support service tasks to assist individuals with mental illness to transition back into their communities with the goal of averting future mental health crisis. Prior to the individual’s discharge from short-term crisis or inpatient hospitalization, the Peer Bridger will engage the individual by coordinating activities to form trust-based relationships that foster hope for the positive change and personal empowerment needed to maintain recovery. Upon discharge from short-term crisis stabilization or inpatient hospitalization, the Peer Bridger will provide support and connections to community resources. This position reports to the Coordinator of Adult Services.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Must be a current or former consumer; or first degree family member of an individual who has received treatment for and self-identifies as a consumer or former mental health consumer. Must have demonstrated a minimum of six (6) months, preferably twelve (12) months, in self-directed recovery. Mississippi Department of Mental Health Peer Support Specialist Certification is preferred as well as successful completion of the required Peer Bridger Training. Good communication skills are necessary. Must have valid driver’s license in Mississippi and proof of auto insurance. This position has been determined to have an occasional or very low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
