Job Summary: The Substance Abuse Specialist provides mental health assessments, evaluations, and counseling for consumers with chemical dependency and families of those consumers in the PACT Program. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, crisis intervention, acute psychiatric therapy, coordination of consumer referral, and provision of planned education/growth experiences. Reports to PACT Program Team Leader.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Chemical Abuse Treatment or a related field required. Experience as a clinician in a mental health setting or substance abuse treatment facility is preferred. Must be licensed or certified as a mental health professional. A Provisional Certification (PCMHT) through the Department of Mental Health must be acquired and documentation presented to Human Resources within 90 days from hire date and (CMHT) must be obtained within 2 years from the date of issuance of certification. License or certification as a Substance Abuse counselor through the Department of Mental Health must be obtained. Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize consumers’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. Good communication skills are necessary. Must have valid driver’s license in Mississippi and maintain proof of auto insurance. This position has been determined to have an occasional or very low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
