Crisis Stabilization Unit

Hinds Behavioral Health Services’ Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) provides 24/7 short-term supervised care to adults who are experiencing acute psychiatric distress or sudden emotional pressure. Our stabilization program is available to those who voluntarily seek help or for those who have been ordered through civil commitment to seek crisis stabilization. Individuals treated at a crisis stabilization unit usually are stabilized in about five to seven days however, some individuals may need a longer period of time to reach stabilization.

Eligibility:

• Adults 18 years of age and older
• Individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress and/or sudden emotional pressure which lower the individual’s ability to handle daily life
• Individuals must be ambulatory and must not have a dementia diagnosis, be in need of detoxification service or have a medical condition which should be treated at a hospital

Admission process (first 24-hours):

• Initial assessment (walk-ins welcome)
• Medical screening conducted by a Registered Nurse
• Drug toxicology screening
• Psychiatric consultation by a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
