Benefits Specialist
Job Summary: Hinds Behavioral Health Services (HBHS) is seeking a CCBHC Benefits Specialist to support individuals receiving mental health and substance use services by helping them access critical public benefits. This role plays a vital part in improving stability, access to care, and recovery outcomes by assisting clients with Social Security (SSI/SSDI), Medicaid, and other insurance applications.
The CCBHC Benefits Specialist works collaboratively with internal care teams and external agencies to ensure timely, accurate benefit enrollment and ongoing eligibility support.
What You’ll Do

Assist clients with applying for and maintaining SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, and other public benefits

Educate clients on eligibility requirements, coverage options, and benefit processes

Complete and track applications, documentation, and follow-up with SSA, Medicaid offices, and other agencies

Coordinate with HBHS care teams to support continuity of care

Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with HIPAA and agency policies

Support HBHS’s mission of recovery-oriented, person-centered care

Participate in trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field

At least two (2) years of experience involving public contact, interviewing, benefits assistance, or completion of complex forms

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word required)

Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications

Experience assisting with SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, or public benefit applications

Experience in behavioral health, social services, or community-based programs
-
Knowledge of SSA disability processes and eligibility requirements
Work Environment

Office and community-based setting

Occasional local travel may be required

Occasional or low risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens
