Job Summary: The Substance Abuse Therapist provides mental health assessment, evaluation, and counseling for consumers with chemical dependency problems and families of those consumers. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, crisis intervention, acute psychiatric therapy, coordination of consumer referral, and provision of planned education/growth experiences. This position reports to Coordinator of Alcohol and Drug Services/ Prevention.
Qualifications:Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Chemical Abuse Treatment or a related field required. Experience as a clinician in a mental health setting or substance abuse treatment facility is preferred. Must be licensed or certified as a mental health professional. A Provisional Mental Health Certification (PCMHT) or Provisional Certification as an Addiction Therapist (PCAT) through the Department of Mental Health must be acquired and documentation presented to Human Resources within 90 days from hire date and full certification must be obtained within to 2 years from the date or hire. Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize adult consumers’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (young adults, middle age and geriatric) limitations and planned procedures. Good communication skills are necessary. Must have valid driver’s license in Mississippi and maintain proof of auto insurance. This position has been determined to have an occasional or very low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
